Four Easy Ways To Support DAS

(1). Join:
Your membership in DAS offers you all this:

Monthly Programs bringing you a wide array of fascinating speakers on birds, birding, habitats, Northland wildlife, conservation, scientific research and other issues and opportunities throughout the region. Programs are held September through June, excluding December.

Field Trips with some of the region’s most knowledgeable birders. Take advantage of their expertise to add new birds to your life list, discover the best birding hotspots, learn how to spot and identify more birds... and socialize with a great group of fellow birders.

Call Notes Newsletter. Get the latest news about DAS programs and activities, local birding news, volunteer opportunities and information on local and regional issues affecting birding and our natural environment.

DuluthAudubon.org. Our web site offers information on local and state Audubon events and activities, birding festivals, bird counts, birding links and other news and information relevant to local birder.

Your membership also supports:

Local Conservation. The DAS is involved in an expanding number of issues and projects created to both conserve and enhance our natural environment and birding opportunities throughout the region. These efforts include identifying and enhancing local Important Bird Areas or "IBA’s".

Local Education and Research. The DAS supports local education and research projects that are consistent with its mission. This includes educational kits for classrooms filled with binoculars, CD’s, field guides and more.

Citizen Science Resource Center. This new DAS web-based program will provide the entire NE Minnesota environmental community with information on a wide range of citizen science projects that they can get involved in. Participation in programs ranges from simple field observations to programs that require some training or expertise.

Your local chapter membership dues are used solely to fund local activities and programs.

Are you a National Audubon Society Member?
NAS members are technically "members" of DAS, and we do receive some funding from NAS. However, as an independent chapter, few of our local benefits would be possible without the support of our local dues-paying chapter members.

(2). Attend Events:
The easiest, most fun, entertaining and informative way you can express your support for DAS is to attend our programs and events. It can sometimes be difficult to attract good speakers for our programs or to find a highly qualified person to lead a field trip. These efforts are made even more difficult when events suffer from poor attendance.

Please attend all the events that you can, and, if possible, bring along a friend or two.

(3). Help us with our "Wish List":
(1). New DAS banner for events.
(2). Help from local birding experts in our efforts to have the St. Louis Estuary designated as an IBA.
(3). Help from birding experts in creating the new Sax-Zim map.
(4). Help from anyone with knowledge or experience in creating information kiosks - possibly for the Sax-Zim area.

(4). Sound Off:
In order to better serve the needs and interest of our local chapter and NAS members, the DAS Board is considering a rather expensive membership survey to help guide them in future decisions. However, if members would simply let us know what is on their minds, such a survey could prove to be unnecessary. What topics would you like to see addressed at our monthly programs? What would make you be more likely to go on a field trip? What local environmental issues are of specific concern to you? What aren't we doing that you'd like us to do? Have we done anything to lose your support? Please express your views by emailing us today: mailto:das@duluthaudubon.org
