Non-Birding Regional Events

 

 Are you an adult who enjoys learning about the natural world? Would you like to support conservation and natural resources research or education efforts? If so - consider becoming involved in your community as a certified Minnesota Master Naturalist Volunteer. Minnesota Naturalist Volunteers complete a 40-hour hands-on course- studying natural history- environmental interpretation- and conservation stewardship. Final certification as a Master Naturalist Volunteer comes with the completion of 40 hours of volunteer service. A minimum of 40 hours of annual service is required thereafter to remain certified and earn yearly pins. The course at the Forest History Center will cover the natural and cultural history within the of the Northwoods and Great Lakes area of Minnesota known as the Laurentian Mixed Forest Province. In addition to learning about a variety of plant and animal communities of these ecosystems- participants will further develop their ability to observe nature and improve their communication skills by sharing knowledge with other participants. A group project will also be completed. The course schedule is for 3 weekends in a row: beginning Saturday May 15-16, May 29-30 and June 5-6. Sessions will include both classroom experiences and field trips. Attendance at all sessions is required. The cost for the course- including materials- is $200.
