DAS Commitment To Citizen Science Grows DAS
is taking a series of steps to increase and enhance its commitment to citizen
science in our region. These steps may eventually lead to birding citizen
science being a key focus of DAS. Proposed actions include: (1). Strongly promote all local and national birding citizen science programs,
and actively encourage participation by DAS and NAS members, as well as other
local birders. Also, use the participation in these programs by non-members to
attract them to DAS as the local “steward” of these programs. (2). Facilitate participation in these programs by helping local birders
understand the specifics of each
program. (3). Provide educational programs and articles to help local birders prepare or
qualify for these programs. (4). Enhance the local impact and value of national programs through a greater
sharing of local information and observations through the DAS newsletter,
website and at monthly programs. The active sharing of local information will
enhance our science for this region, and it will also provide invaluable
information to local birders as to where, when and how to view species of
interest. (5). Work more closely with NRRI, DNR and federal scientists to determine any
future needs for local citizen science projects. (6). Encourage DAS members and other outdoor enthusiasts to participate in the many non-bird citizen science projects taking place in our region. Local and Regional Birding Citizen Science Programs Non-birding Citizen Science Programs
