15th Annual Boulder Birding Big Day!

Co-sponsored by Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center and Duluth Audubon Society
When: Saturday, May 15, 2010.
Time: (6:30 a.m. sign-in, breakfast treats) Birding from 7:00-11:00 a.m., complementary lunch to follow while tallying up the numbers.
Where: Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center, 7328 Boulder Dam Road, Duluth, MN.
Purpose: To have fun and promote citizen science.
Additional Details:
  Birders are teamed up with local experts to see how many species they can count.
  This is the 15th year of the event. Record number of species counted previously has been
  93 out of the total number of 200 species possible. Birders are free to go anywhere within
  the Boulder Lake Management Area (18,000 acres). Pontoon rides will be available to observe
  shorebirds and waterfowl.  
Free and open to all levels of birders.

Saint Louis County Birdathon!

St. Louis County Birdathon
midnight to midnight (24-hour event)

Cost: $30; we encourage participants to raise pledges to help fund research and education programs at Hawk Ridge. Every dollar helps!

The Birdathon is a fun citizen science event, which also serves as an important means of raising funds for the research and education programs of Hawk Ridge. Birders of all levels of ability are invited to form or join one of the birding teams attempting to find as many species as possible in a 24-hour period. Or, you can compete in other categories, such as a Big Sit or the non-motorized division. Prizes will be awarded for each category.

at Hartley Nature Center
9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Cost: Free, bring a dish to pass for potluck brunch

All are invited to share a potluck brunch and stories from the Birdathon. Discover what species were found by competing teams during their 24 hours in the field. Prizes will be awarded.
